BUT — if the point of origin is an un-endorsed modification (aftermarket CNG kit, HID lamp, high-wattage music, re-wired battery terminal, after-market USB charging mod), insurer's view is that the "proximate cause" is the un-endorsed modification, not insurable self-ignition — likely repudiation. The surveyor MUST open the burnt area in the presence of the garage, photograph the point of origin, and ask the garage for a point-of-origin report + factory wiring diagram comparison.
