AI OCR for RC, driving licence & insurance policy
Photograph a document during the survey and DigiSurvey reads it into a structured form: registration number, chassis and engine numbers, owner, validity dates and policy details. Check each field, correct anything that is wrong, and apply it to the survey so it flows into every report.

From a document photo to survey data in four steps
Photograph the document
Capture the RC, licence or policy in the survey's Documents, or upload a photo or PDF page. Scans are cropped and enhanced so the text is easier to read.
AI reads the fields
DigiSurvey recognises the document type and fills a form, field by field. A coloured dot beside each field shows how confident the reading is.
Check and correct
Compare each value with the original. Edit anything that is wrong, or copy a single value with its Copy button.
Apply to survey
Apply to survey writes the checked values, such as vehicle number, owner, chassis, engine, policy number and period, into the survey's shared fields.

The fields a motor surveyor checks every day
Anything printed outside these fields is still captured as extra label–value pairs and plain text, so nothing on the page is lost.
| Document | Fields read into the form |
|---|---|
| Registration certificate (RC) | Registration no. and date, owner and S/W/D of, maker, model, vehicle class, body type, fuel, colour, chassis and engine no., cubic capacity, seating, manufacturing month/year, emission norms, weights, registration and tax validity, hypothecation, RTO |
| Driving licence (DL) | DL number, holder name, S/W/D of, date of birth, address, issue date, validity (non-transport and transport), classes of vehicle (COV), issuing authority, badge number |
| Insurance policy | Policy or certificate no., insurer and issuing office, insured name and address, period of insurance, IDV, registration, chassis and engine no., make/model, year, NCB, add-on covers, premium, policy type, hypothecation, previous policy no. |
| Other documents | PUC, fitness certificate, permit, repair estimate and tax invoice (with line items), PAN and cancelled cheque |
Faster document checks, fewer typing errors
On a motor claim you check the same things every time. Is the licence valid on the date of loss, and does its class of vehicle cover the vehicle involved? Do the chassis and engine numbers on the RC match the vehicle? Does the policy period cover the accident, and what IDV and add-ons apply? Having these values in one form makes those checks quicker. It also means a 17-character chassis number is typed once, not in every report.
Once applied, the values fill the matching fields in your spot, preliminary, final and reinspection reports and the fee bill. Checking the documents against the originals, and against RTO or insurer records when the case needs it, is still your job.
- Saved per document — tap View data to reopen the form without scanning again. Your edits are kept.
- Aadhaar masked — an Aadhaar number in the text is reduced to its last four digits.
- Offline fallback reader — if the AI service cannot be reached, DigiSurvey falls back to an on-device text reader that gives you plain text to copy.
How the OCR runs
Document reading uses Google Gemini, called from DigiSurvey's server, so no API key is ever stored in the app on your phone. The DigiSurvey administrator connects the key and sets a per-user daily limit, which resets at midnight IST and is shared with the AI damage scan. Documents and extracted data stay private to your account; see the Privacy Policy.
Customers can also send their RC, licence and policy through a self-survey link. Those documents land in the same survey, ready to scan.
Frequently asked questions
Which documents can the OCR read?
The RC (front and back), driving licence, insurance policy or cover note, PUC, fitness certificate, permit, repair estimates and tax invoices, PAN card and cancelled cheques. Other printed details are kept as extra label and value pairs.
Is the extracted data always correct?
No. OCR can misread blurred, glared or damaged documents. A coloured dot shows the confidence for each field. Check every value against the original before you apply it.
Does it fill my reports automatically?
Only after you tap Apply to survey. The checked values then go into the survey's shared fields and appear in the spot, final, reinspection and summary reports and the fee bill.
Do I need to scan a document again to see its data?
No. Each scan is saved with the document. Tap View data to reopen the form, including any corrections you made.
What happens if the AI is not available?
If the AI service cannot be reached, for example because the daily limit is used up, DigiSurvey falls back to an on-device text reader. It gives you the plain text to copy, with fewer structured fields.
How is personal data handled?
Documents and extracted data are private to your account. Aadhaar numbers in the extracted text are masked to the last four digits. The image is processed by Google Gemini through DigiSurvey's server.
